New and seasoned Japanese visual culture fans are invited to join our club! Each month we’ll try out a new series by reading the first volume of the manga before meeting to discuss it and watch the first episode of the corresponding anime. Stick around afterward for a related activity, which could be anything from a craft to a competition! Use the code @gbmanga in the Remind app or sign up here to receive updates on meetings and other club-related events.

(Nov. 19) For November’s Club Meeting, we’re covering Witch Hat Atelier by Kamome Shirahama. “In a world where everyone takes wonders like magic spells and dragons for granted, Coco is a girl with a simple dream: She wants to be a witch. But everybody knows magicians are born, not made, and Coco was not born with a gift for magic. Resigned to her un-magical life, Coco is about to give up on her dream to become a witch…until the day she meets Qifrey, a mysterious, traveling magician. After secretly seeing Qifrey perform magic in a way she’s never seen before, Coco soon learns what everybody ‘knows’ might not be the truth, and discovers that her magical dream may not be as far away as it may seem…(Goodreads).” Afterwards, we’ll make our own palm quire-shaped journals and take suggestions for December’s Anime Roulette Watch Party!
